Valdosta Hospice Half Marathon Playlist

Below is my playlist for tomorrow’s half marathon. There are several tried and true songs which I always run to and a few new ones that I pulled from the archives. Since I have a tendency to start every run too fast (who doesn’t do that???), I am attempting to bump all the slower songs to the first 6.55 miles. I am also hoping to still have enough enough energy to run in the 5k Color Dash afterward – Hospice Half & Dewey Color Dash

Hydroxycut: My Go-To Supplement From 2003 – 2005

Hydroxycut

According to WebMD, “Hydroxycut is a group of dietary supplements sold as both weight loss and fat loss aids. The active ingredients in most Hydroxycut products are:

  • Lady’s mantle extract (alchemilla vulgaris)
  • Wild olive extract (olea europaea)
  • Komijn extract (cuminum cyminum)
  • Wild mint extract (mentha longifolia)

There are no studies on the safety of any Hydroxycut product. But the FDA investigates when it gets reports that a supplement may be harmful. And sometimes the agency orders recalls of unsafe products.” (Full article: Hydroxycut).

One of my Army buddies introduced me to Hydroxycut while I was serving in 2003. There were fewer formulas of Hydroxycut at this time and my best comparison would have to be the Pro Clinical formula that is offered today.  I was instantly hooked! Not only did I lose those unwanted extra pounds, I was able to push harder through afternoon workouts (which were usually the second workout of the day). Hydroxycut gave me energy without feeling jittery and helped suppress my appetite.  I stayed on Hydroxycuton and off for over a year. During a regular workday, I fell 15 feet and broke my wrist (fracturing a small bone in two places), which required months in a cast followed by months of occupational therapy. Due to this injury, I stopped taking Hydroxycut and stopped most of my training.

39th Annual Tallahassee Half Marathon Recap!

Pam & me pre-race

(Unofficial) FINISH TIME: 2:00:35 OFFICIAL FINISH TIME: 2:00:02

I love this race and will be doing it again next year if my schedule allows for it. Today was not my best run by any means. I started off too fast, as usual, but found my tempo around mile 3. I was having a dandy old-time until mile 5. That’s when my right IT band decided it wasn’t in the mood to run today. I changed my stride and concentrated on running easy and with a shorter pace. I also slowed down on turns to minimize the stress on my tendon. I felt pretty decent until mile 12. That’s when I hit the wall. I simply didn’t have any juice left in my body. Running through pain sucked the energy right out of my body. I thought I would be able to push it home on the last half mile, especially since the race finished on the FSU track, but I did not have it in me. So, I was passed by about 50 runners who were trying to beat the 2:00:00 mark and I scampered across the finish line right around 2:00:35 (official results pending). I train doing negative splits, and this was anything but a negative split.

All in all, I am happy with my time. The goal for this race was to finish and feel good. It is about 3 hours post race and my knee is hurting and my stomach is not happy. I am nauseous and have stomach cramps. That is my own fault since I decided to consume some pepperoni pizza as soon as I finished. I should have cooled off and then stuck to bananas and pb&j sandwiches. I’ve eaten some kids Pepto tablets and am starting to feel better already.

Per my Garmin, my performance by mile:

1 – 8:55

2 – 8:20

3 – 8:33

4 – 8:32

5 – 8:55

6 – 9:18

7 – 9:00

8 – 9:07

9 – 9:19

10 – 9:14

11 – 9:31

12 – 10:03

13 – 10:41

13.1 – 1:02 (10:13 pace)

Tallahassee Half-Marathon Race Playlist

I’ve always relied on a handy mix of songs to get me through a workout or a run. However, when I started running longer distances, I realized my playlists were often too short and started scouring blogs and iTunes to get ideas for new mixes. Here’s my playlist for Sunday’s Half Marathon; some songs are long time favorites, some make me smile and want to dance, and a few make me want to push through the 10 mile-wall I know I will hit.
